What is sodium dichloroisocyanurate used for?

It is mainly used as a disinfectant, biocide and industrial deodorant. It is found in some modern water purification tablets/filters. It is more efficient than the formerly used halazone water disinfectant. In these applications, it is a slow-release source of chlorine in low concentrations at a relatively constant rate. As a disinfectant, it is used to sterilize drinking water, swimming pools, tableware and air, and to fight against infectious diseases as a routine disinfection agent.

It can be used for disinfection and environmental sterilization, for example in livestock, poultry, fish and silkworm raising, for bleaching textiles, for cleaning industrial circulating water, and to prevent wool from shrinking.

 Fabric Bleaching 

In the fabric sector Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate is used to bleach textiles as well as prevent wool from shrinking. It can also be used to disinfect air and tableware in homes and restaurants. 

Medical Field 

As a disinfectant, it has amazing cleaning and sterilization properties. This makes NaDCC suitable for medical purposes. It can be used to disinfect and sterilize hospital equipment for surgical and minor operations. Recent tests have indicated that it can be used in killing Hepatitis A and B viruses. 

Science 

NaDCC is used in scientific research to show chemiluminescence. It emits a red light when it is decomposed by concentrated hydrogen peroxide. When concentrated NaDCC is mixed with a diluted copper (II) sulfate solution, it gives an intense lilac precipitate of sodium copper Dichloroisocyanurate.  

Swimming Pools 

NaDCC is used for clearing any bacteria, viruses, algae, and any other pathogens from swimming pools. Its slow release of chlorine makes it ideal for such purposes. Since it comes in tablets, handling and using it is simple and easy. 

Drinking-Water 

As previously stated, NaDCC has been used in the purification of drinking water in emergency cases. This includes places that have been hit by an earthquake/tornado or experienced extensive flooding. In tablet form, it’s also used to sterilize drinking water in homes. 

Farming And Agriculture 

Since NaDCC gradually releases chlorine for a prolonged period of time, it’s also used in farming. Here it is used to kill any microbes off fruits, thereby making it easier to transport produce across lengthy distances. It’s also used in:

• Animal husbandry 
• Silkworm rearing 

Fishery 

Fish diseases may result in severe losses on the farm. This is mainly in the form of reduced fish growth, fish death, increased feeding cost due to lack of appetite, and increased vulnerability to predators. 

As a water purifier, this compound can completely kill and reduce bacteria and fungi commonly found in circulating water systems. Thus, it can significantly reduce cases of diseases on fish farms.
